The Silence Is Deafening

With recent comments from Bruce Arians I feel Ronald Jones II future in Tampa Bay may be coming to an end faster than most originally thought.

Drafted in the second round in 2018 Ronald Jones was expected to be the home run hitter the Buccaneers offense desperately needed. Coming out of USC it was anticipated that Jones would hit the ground running and I mean that literally. A less than stellar rookie year left some Bucs fans scratching their heads. Jones was out played by Peyton Barber. After the Covid offseason one could tell Jones took this very seriously. Ronald walked into the Tampa Bay locker room jacked! Many fans compared his physique to former Bucs halfback Michael Pitman. The 2020 Championship run saw Jones and Fournette share the workload as Bruce Arians leaned toward the hot hand.

When Jones hand was hot it was smoking hot! But his inability to secure the rock and not cough it up led to Fournette seeing more playing time.

Ronald Jones finished last season just shy of 1000 yards on the ground. This due in large part to the fact of him missing playing time due to injury and Covid-19. The illness was the ticket Lombardi Lenny needed to prove his worth as the Bucs feature back.

With Fournette resigning B.A. stated that every position would be a battle for who is going to start. This coming after all free agency Lenny said he wanted to go where he would be the feature back. Fournette is not used to not being the “bell cow”. Arians also reiterated how highly he regards the Young Ke’Shawn Vaughn. Vaughn was the third wheel in the backfield last year but had flashes of brilliance during the Super Bowl campaign. The silence about Jones I truly think speaks volumes. Do the Bucs package Jones in a deal on draft day to collect more draft ammunition? Is Leonard Fournette and Vaughn the future? Do the Bucs draft a running back in 2021?
